Americans may be one of the most mentally miserable and erratic people in the world since maybe ever, but I guarantee you that NZers aren’t that well either even after adjusting for scale.
The problem with New Zealand is that it's not a nuclear power, and its neighbor Australia isn't either. Being in a remote corner of the world is its main allure. Even so, any such country is completely at the mercy of those that are nuclear powers with a global reach. This is why even Scandinavian countries and Switzerland fail, as they are dependent on an increasingly shaky NATO. I guess he could have moved to France since it has a deterrent.
If you're talking about nuclear bombs, they are unusable. No one wants or will do a first strike. They are only useful for deterrence. France has a first-strike policy but no one else does.
If you're talking about nuclear energy then I don't really know what your point is.
Nuclear deterrence absolutely matters. It is what is keeping North Korea protected from being bombed into extinction by the US. Once Iran has nukes with launch capabilities, it too will become immune to being bombed.
To clarify, deterrence protects from being bombed via conventional means.
I'd still rather be in the USA than stuck in a bootlicking "anglo" country like the UK or Australia. At least there are hardcore blue states that mostly buck Trumps stupidity.
