Halifax bank to close customer accounts for “inappropriate” social media posts (reclaimthenet.org)

Any type of behavior that tells customers to go somewhere else will lead to a net negative outcome. Halifax might get a few likes from people on Twitter for being stunning and brave, but they’re losing customers and they will eventually have to explain this to their board.

>A customer replied: “There’s no ambiguity about the name “Gemma.” It’s a female person’s name. In other words, it’s pathetic virtue signaling and is seen as such by almost everyone who has responded to the initial tweet. Why are you trying to alienate people?”

>In response, a member of the Halifax social media team called Andy M said: “If you disagree with our values, you’re welcome to close your account.”

So they harassed the bank staff online? That's a bit different than seeking out a shitposting account and finding offense.

The 'Ratner moment' refers to Gerald Rayner who famously said his company sold tat, the company subsequently went bust.
