The design looks really strange on my iOS device -- maybe because I'm using NextDNS and something is being blocked -- but it looks even weirder on PC with the background repeating on the X axis. I'd really not recommend going for a "mobile only" design, especially for the HN crowd.

It's not mobile only to me. I like the design on bigger screens, with the repeating background. I don't think anything is blocked, all the necessary data should come with the same request, from the same server. Weird/unique/memorable ...

The page is not aesthetically pleasing as it is, you can ask anyone that works with design for a living.

The only time “weird” design works is when it’s either minimalistic (like Craigslist) or esoteric (like Snapchat). Yet neither of those examples look unfinished or “wrong” the way a repeating background does.

Matched several times, first times didn't hear anything, then something that sounded like a recording. Someone trying to screw with this.

EDIT: Used recaptcha to try to deal with that, waiting now, and didn't match, which I guess is a good sign?
