Or less than Minecraft (2B)

The radio firmware could be executed on different CPU than the Android kernel and communicate with a standard protocol ?

That's more or less what happens already.

It is but if the radio driver was open source then the interface with the radio SoC would be documented.

Right now it is the worst of both worlds. Closed interface for a closed undocumented chip able to execute arbitrary code.

The interface isn't closed anymore, is it? [1]

Drivers don't need to be open source to interact with GPLed code.

Some reasons why non-technical folks might be interested in the Pinephone:

1) avoid the privacy issues of Android & iOS 2) have the confidence that as long as their hardware work, they will have updates 3) buy from a brand that will allow you (or a third party) to fix your hardware (Pine64 sells you spare parts, and at reasonable prices!) 4) have an user-replaceable battery 5) have an affordable smartphone (I know, there are 30$ android phones but they tick none of the above points)

The points 2 to 4 will interest an increasing number of people this century, imo

edit: typos

I just tested: Firefox is able to play reasonably well a Youtube video at 720p 25fps.

Well, it is easier to place all the components in a bigger phone :)

I too prefer small screens, but I bought a Pinephone anyway to support the effort and help testing.

Typed from Firefox on my Pinephone Braveheart running Mobian (works fine for me).

Alma (co-op) | Software Engineers | Grenoble, French Alps, France | Onsite | Full-time | language: French

Alma was founded 41 years ago as an operation research company working on sheet nesting for CAM (have a look at the demo of our saas offer: https://demo.powernestlib.com/ ). Over the years Alma has been diversifying into other areas such as sheet cutting, 3D robots programming (e.g. for welding), IT services and health-care: https://www.alma.fr/en/

Alma is a cooperative: a new employee becomes an associate one year after joining. All shareholders are employees and at the shareholder meeting each associate has 1 vote (regardless of their seniority/capital).

You must speak French or be willing to learn it: English would be ok for technical discussions but less practical for coffe-break discussions, shareholders meetings, etc. We may be able to help for visas. Our offers (in French): https://recrutement.alma.fr/listeoffre.asp Please use this page to candidate to an offer, or contact rh AT alma.fr and mention that you are coming from HN.

Unless the apocalypse is due to a solar flare similar to the Carrington event, which could destroy a lot of computers.

I think the task of propagating such information could suit well the Church of Reality: http://www.churchofreality.org/wisdom/welcome_home/
