Hey HN! Solo dev here! Building something new has always been a fun challenge to take on. But marketing? That's the real beast I've been struggling to crack. Especially in the world of short form video content where that initial hook makes all the difference.
That's why I built VidScore AI: an iOS app that uses AI to analyze your videos before you post.

Got frustrated with issues in my city and realized there is quite a disconnect between the general public and lawmakers. So I built a newsletter which takes the 5 most recent bills, and simplifies them so we can understand what is actually going on.
A new bill proposes a one-year suspension of the motor vehicle fuel tax, forcing businesses to pass every penny of savings directly to consumers. Any company that doesn't comply would face penalties for violating unfair competition laws. The bill also requires fuel sellers to show on receipts how much tax would have been charged. To cover the gap, money from the General Fund will be shifted to the Transportation Tax Fund. If passed, this bill would take effect immediately as an emergency measure.
A recently passed bill is shaking up the rules for accessory dwelling units (ADUs) across California, ensuring that these smaller homes won't count against local housing quotas. Now, developers can create subdivisions on both vacant single-family lots and multifamily zones, streamlining the process to boost housing availability. With new stipulations around lot size and density, this legislation aims to supercharge California’s housing market while keeping local agencies accountable. Mark your calendars—the changes kick in on July 1, 2025!
California just passed a law that hits cities hard if they drag their feet on approving housing developments. If local governments fail to comply with state housing requirements, they could face massive fines of up to $50,000 per month. The money collected will be used to boost affordable housing in the same area. The law also empowers courts to intercept public funds if cities refuse to pay—meaning there’s no escape for housing rule violators!
$50k/mo would be massive for an individual, but seems pretty minimal on the scale of a city. For a smallish city, that’s $1/resident/mo. A whole $12/yr in taxes for each resident.
